Postcards are a marketer's dream. Their compact size makes them ideal for simple, targeted mailings, as well as larger, more full-fledged campaigns. Postcards are inexpensive and highly visible in a mailbox. Mail them or use as handouts or take-ones.

By definition, a "postcard" is a message or advertisement delivered via the U.S Postal Service. And the official definition of a postcard according to the U.S. Postal Service is a single card measuring no smaller than 3.5" x 5.5" and no larger than 4.25" x 6". But these days, almost any card up to 6" x 11" and printed 1-side or 2-side is referred to as a postcard.

To simplify the quoting process, we feature the most popular sizes and papers below, but there are many more options available. If you don't see what you want, give us a call and we can quickly give you pricing.

  2. *Size

What are the size limits for first-class postcards?

All postcards are not created equal, at least in the eyes of the USPS. In order to qualify for the special first-class postcard rate, a card must be rectangular in shape, at least 3.5 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inches thick, and no more than 6 inches high x 9 inches long x 0.016 inches thick. Postcards that do not meet these regulations are treated as normal mail.

So why would you consider a different size for your postcard? For starters, a larger size stands out better in a pile of mail. It also offers added real estate for offers, images, and text about your products and services.

If you're not concerned about meeting the USPS guidelines for postcard rates, you might consider a slightly larger postcard (5 x 7, 5.5 x 8.5, or 6 x 9) to take advantage of these added benefits.

  4. *Color Options

Which color option should I choose?

Postcards which are mailed require printing on both sides. One side is use primarily for your advertising message. The other side is used for the address of the recipient, the class and method of postage payment, and the return address of the sender. It can also contain advertising or messaging, but there are very specific requirements outlined by the USPS. Please download our Mailing Piece Templates to make sure your mailing card meets all the requirements.

One-sided printing is a common option for take-ones or hand-outs.

  5. *Paper Choices

We have a wide variety of papers to choose from. These are just a few of the most commonly used:

80 lb. matte text is a common, cost-effective paper stock perfect for text and simple graphics.

80 lb. gloss text is a super-smooth, glossy paper that adds an extra pop to full-color printing with photos.

100 lb. gloss text is an impressive-feeling, heavyweight paper that produces excellent full-color graphics and photos.

80 lb. matte cover is a thicker, heavyweight paper perfect for when you need more durable flyers.

80 lb. gloss cover is a glossy version of our 80 lb. matte cover, with a glossy sheen that brings colors to life.

100 lb. gloss cover is a heavyweight paper that produces excellent full-color graphics and photos, and is best used for cards, covers of booklets or stand-alone flyers. Not recommended for folded products like tri-fold brochures because it will not stay closed.

In addition, there are many non-coated papers use for custom printing projects. We're happy to help you find the best type for your project.
